Rock im Park 2014 - day 1

 Betyg

Rock im Park 2014 - that’s one crazy, but well oiled metal machine. Four days of rock and metal madness that is definitely one hell of an experience to attend not only due to amazing line-up with names like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Kings of Leon and many more. Not even extreme heats could have discouraged tens of thousands of people enjoying Rock im Park to the fullest. It’s well organized event and others could definitely learn a lot from how these German folks do it. Rock im Park is every rock and metal fan dream come true and not only that. With their precise organisation, despite the small little details that could be found here and there that could be improved, it’s on the top of my list of festivals for press too.

Day 1 - The very first day of Rock im Park might have offered only six bands, but Avenged Sevenfold and mainly Metallica surely attracted a big and strong crowd of metalheads. 65,000 people have gone wild on Friday and the shows were definitely worth attending. People started to gather in front of the Center Stage slowly but surely during the first act - the German metal folk band In Extremo, to gradually build up a massive horde ready to rock the beginning of the festival as Alter Bridge came out. The unique sound together with very specific voice of frontman Myles Kennedy are simply unmistakable and the band keeps pushing themselves higher and higher, as they proved with their last record, The Fortress. Although most of the songs were from older albums, half of the songs being from the record Blackbird.

Avenged Sevenfold have grown massively during last few years and are most certainly one of the top heavy metal bands recently. Lot of pyro, sick guitar solos performed by Synyster Gates or dueling guitars with Zacky Vengeance, the powerful voice of the frontman M Shadows, playful interactions and banter between the members, this all you could see and hear at Rock im Park. Band also played So Far Away song as a tribute to their late drummer Jimmy The Rev Sullivan.

But the pure madness started when Metallica came on stage. Or maybe even a little sooner, since people started pushing to the front and went just plain crazy just to see the now legendary band with their special „by request“ set chosen by the fans themselves. Classics like Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven or Nothing Else Matters, together with songs you don’t hear live that often like St. Anger and a new song wrote especially for this tour - Lords of Summer sounded over the massive crowd who were singing and screaming the lyrics together with frontman James Hetfield.
