THE LOUD met through a shared love of modern & 60s psych & garage sounds...think a mix of The Yardbirds, The Monks, The Spencer Davis Group, 13th Floor Elevators & The Beatles, through to Brian Jonestown Massacre, Smith Westerns & The Horrors. Following appearances with Black Lips, Echo & The Bunnymen and Iggy Pop earlier in 2011, the group released their debut mini-LP, “Harris Shutter”, on Liverpool independent Payper Tiger Records.
The Loud’s 70’s influenced glam enticed the likes of The Fly, Clash, Artrocker and Total Guitar to feature the band, and led to their single ‘Amy’s Gonna Get You’ being included in NME’s Top 10 Singles of The Week. In a recent BBC6 Maida Vale session with Steve Lamacq The Loud more than proved themselves in performance and personality, as Lamacq went onto blog “It is a sort of head-banging pop, made more Liverpool – and more Glam – by the characters who lurk in their lyrics.”
This December, The Loud will release a new double A side single ‘Mother Warned Me About Girls Like You’/ ‘For My Record Machine’ as a limited edition pink tape cassette. It comes complete with screen printed sleeve and two B sides, a cover of Dusty Springfield’s ‘When The Love Light Starts Shining Through Her Eyes’ and ‘Burn The Books’. Bringing us back to the cassette culture, The Loud inventively continue to showcase their own version of modern day garage rock with gusto.
Beneath THE LOUD’s swathes of feedback and E.S Posthumus noise, lies a melodic core, a voice that’s both tender, sinister and precise; an effective vehicle to raise and tighten the inherent tension of the music; their own interpretation of the dark underbelly of modern youth. A reincarnated, Northern-English Gary Monk, sobered after 22 years of the current British condition.
Already a name within their hometown, The Loud are set to follow the likes of Stealing Sheep and Outfit out of Liverpool, to far wider acclaim. A religious experience live, and with just the same energy contained on tape, you’ll certainly find them hard to ignore.
