| Metal Legacy Some miles north from Göteborg and bordering Norway we find the region of Bohuslän, a tiny area that belonged to Norway since 872. Then Denmark united the north under its kingdom. Finally Sverige defeated Denmark in two epical wars (1643–45 and 1657–58) and this led to the incorporation into Sweden of Bohuslän. In the north of this landskap, few miles from the Norwegian border, we find Strömstad. Three centuries after the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, which meant the annexation of Bohuslän to the Swedish Empire, Strömstad got a small but essential thrash, death and black metal-scene in 89/90 with bands like RABBITS CARROT, NOSFERATU, SIREN’S YELL, SATANIZED and DISSECTION. Strömstad soon made its way into the minds of the death metal-underground in both Sweden and Norway. A few very special shows – under the name Böldfest – took place in the Strömstad-area in the early 90ies with both local bands as well as bands from the upcoming Swedish/Norwegian death metal underground like GROTESQUE, THERION, CARNAGE, CARBONIZED, ENTOMBED, CADAVER, MERCILESS, DARK TRANQULLITY, CEMETARY among others. These shows where arranged and put together by the late Jon Nödtveidt (DISSECTION) with help from all the local bands and friends. Jon and DISSECTION themselves later made themselves a name as one of the most important bands in the extreme metal-scene ever and is hailed worldwide for their own unique style. To celebrate and remember Strömstad as a metal-town and to keep the tradition going the first Metal Legacy-festival took place in February 2011! The now already legendary line-up included MAYHEM(no), MARDUK, NIFELHEIM and supportact ASSAULT. The second festival will take place at Skagerack, STRÖMSTAD in October 2012!
