Wacken Open Air 2021 – Is officially sold out!

The metal scene is standing strong, even though this year's festival summer got cancelled due to the current Covid-19 situation. 75,000 tickets for the Wacken Open Air 2021 are sold and therefore the festival is officially sold out! After this year's cancellation, ticket holders were offered varied options to exchange their tickets: a voucher, a donation ticket, a new ticket for 2021 or getting the money back. More than 90% of the visitors exchanged their tickets to the following year. Meanwhile all remaining tickets were given away via waiting lists and a fair lottery procedure, as the festival organizers have just announced.

The first artists on the line up for Wacken Open Air 2021 are set to be announced this week on Saturday! This also marks something completely new for Wacken Open Air: The festival has never been sold out in advance without the first bands being announced.

"We are very happy about the trust our fans show us! We will do everything we can to make Wacken Open Air 2021 an unforgettable event. We will use the additional time given to showcase the festival from its best side!“, says W:O:A festival co-founder Holger Hübner and promises: “We will offer a first glimpse on Saturday with the announcement of the first bands."

W:O:A festival co-founder Thomas Jensen adds: “We know that the current crisis is giving a hard time to many of our fans in terms of short-time work, lacking job opportunities, dismissals and illness in almost all industries. The more we are grateful for the overwhelming support that is being given to us. It does help us to look ahead confidently and greatly motivates us to prepare W:O:A for next year."

But even a cancelled summer festival season is no reason to be quiet! In the originally planned festival period - from July 29 to August 1 - the first edition of the digital streaming event Wacken World Wide takes place this week. True to the mantra „If you can't come to Wacken, Wacken will come to you“, exclusive shows and concerts by well-knows artists such as Sabaton, Blind Guardian, Heaven Shall Burn and many more including a varied overall program will be available for free on wacken-world-wide.com and MagentaMusik360!

This year's Wacken Open Air has been cancelled.

Dear Metalheads,
yesterday, the German government decided that due to the Coronavirus pandemic, no mass gatherings will be allowed until August, 31st 2020. We are facing an unprecented situation in our 30 years: It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that there will be no Wacken Open Air this year.

Our whole team has been working intensively on the festival these last months and the more all of us are bitterly disappointed that we are not allowed to celebrate a Wacken Open Air with you. This administrative order affects us heavily and we will need some time to process the bad news.

Nevertheless, we support the decision of the German government in this difficult situation for the whole world. Your health and safety have always been and always will be our top priority. We as promoters are therefore bound to take an even greater responsibility and have to follow the instructions of the experts.

Concerning Wacken Open Air 2021 and options for your already bought tickets we will reach out to you asap but ask for a little bit of patience whilst we work through this. We thank you for your trust during times which are unparalleled for all of us.

Stay healthy - In Metal We Trust!

Your W:O:A Team

Wacken Open Air announces Slipknot for a headliner slot in 2020

Midnight, the witching hour – even more so in the final night of October to the 1st of November, when according to the popular American Halloween tradition all sorts of ghosts, vampires, and other nocturnal creatures are roaming around in seach of sweets and other treats.

There is no better time to announce a true metal monster for the upcoming 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air: SLIPKNOT!

The mask wearing metal maniacs from Des Moines, Iowa have not just evolved into massive chart strikers since their foundation in 1995, but have also earned a justified reputation as a most impressive live act. Anyone who has witnessed the 9-piece band fronted by exceptional vocalist Corey Taylor on stage knows which enormous power their unique baselball bad wielding brand of modern metal can achieve live. Almost one year after the American headliners released their current album "We Are Not Your Kind", SLIPKNOT will enter the mainstage at the Wacken Open Air – for the first time ever at this festival.

The following bands have already been announced for the coming 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air in 2020 (in alphabetical order): AMON AMARTH, ANNIHILATOR, AT THE GATES, BEAST IN BLACK, CEMICAN, DEATH ANGEL, DIRKSCHNEIDER, HYPOCRISY, JUDAS PRIEST, KAMPFAR, MERCYFUL FATE, NERVOSA, ORDEN OGAN, OVERKILL, SICK OF IT ALL, SLIPKNOT, SODOM, U.D.O. (mit Bundeswehr Orchester), VENOM, WHILE SHE SLEEPS
