Lion/Warner

A new progressive power metal band from Italy debuts on Lion Music. NO GRAVITY was formed by the well-known Simone Fiorletta from the ashes of MOONLIGHT COMEDY. Apart from Simone the band consists of guitarist Davide Perruzza, keyboardist Andrea di Paoli, bass player Andrea Casali, and drummer Marco Aiello. What no vocalist? Nope, not one but six of them. Simone has enlisted the help of Andy Kuntz (VANDEN PLAS), Michele Luppi (KILLING TOUCH), Fabio Leone (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, VISION DIVINE), Mark Basile (DGM), Roberto Tiranti (LABYRINTH), and Emiliano Germani (MOONLIGHT COMEDY). Virtuosity and power metal, can this be as superb as the info states?

Short songs are not for this lot, opener “Sailing on Sight” clocks in at 8.28. It is well clad in keyboards and guitar patterns, but it is clearly power metal, and progressive at that. The songs are to be specially written for each vocalist, but I see no statement as to who sings which song. Andrea´s keyboards are a positive ingredient, and Simone is a capable neoclassic guitarist. They follow suit in “The Killer”, which is at least as keyboard laden as its predecessor. The vocals seem more well-placed than in the opener though. The solo contains a myriad of notes per minute. “Can´t Dream Anymore” opens softly, and echoes of FATES WARNING in their heyday. The arrangement plus the individual efforts are a display of quality. Occasionally a song is too heavy and overlong, e.g. “Voices From the Past”, which would have benefitted from a slower pace. The keyboard parts are nearly outstanding. The closing track, “Unexpected Guest”, should perhaps have been two songs. The first instrumental part is superior to the track it transgresses into. NO GRAVITY is a very capable band that produces swell softer songs, and complex power metal tracks. All in all this must be a pleasure for the progressively inclined.
