Happyness - Write in

 Betyg

Review4407_Happyness_-_Write_in.

London band Happyness released their debut EP just over three years ago, and followed that up later in 2014 with their debut album "Weird little birthdays". Now they're back with their second album, "Write in". They've not let the success of the first album go to their heads though and recorded this album on a shoestring budget.

It's an interesting album with a good mix of sounds showing their willingness to experiment. On "Uptrend/Style raids" for example, the slightly unusual vocal sound comes from using an old supermarket announcement microphone they found at a Paris flea market - not the first thing you'd imagine a band using but effective in giving the song a slightly different feel.
While they are still willing to take risks and experiment and definitely embrace a wide range of sounds, there's a more focussed feel to this album as well as a more positive feel.

Is it the sort of album I'd normally listen to? No it's not, but there's something about it that draws you in and makes you want to listen to it a bit more. It's not your typical album - it's far more interesting than that, and that can only be a good thing.
