|Metal Female Voices Fest
For fans of female fronted rock and metal, MFVF is THE festival to attend with two full days of bands covering a wide range of rock and metal genres, but all linked by the fact that they all have female singers. Previous headliners have included Epica, Arch Enemy, Doro, Tarja, Leaves Eyes and Lacuna Coil. Bands come from across Europe and the rest of the world and the line-up is always strong enough to convince fans from all over Europe and as far away as Canada and the USA to travel to Belgium for MFVF. MFVF attracts a very loyal following with many fans buying their tickets as soon as they go on sale, even if only a few smaller bands have been announced at that stage.
MFVF is held in the Octoberhallen venue in Wieze, just outside the town of Aalst. Most fans from outside the area stay in Brussels or Aalst and catch a shuttle bus to/from the venue. The venue has a single large stage and the organisation is excellent, so band changeovers all happen quickly and efficiently with no over-runs. There is a bar in the venue and a food stall selling filled baguettes, but there are also a few food vans outside the venue. There is limited seating in the hall, but VIP ticket holders have a separate seating area backstage as well as a separate cash bar.
Most of the bands playing also do signing sessions and some of these attract large queues. Merchandise stands are handy for getting CD's by some of the smaller bands who's albums perhaps aren't so easy to find in for instance the UK or USA.
The MFVF organisers have a very friendly hands on approach and really care about the fans and making sure they have a great time, and its this approach that helps make MFVF such a great festival.
If you are a fan of female fronted bands, then MFVF is a festival you simply must visit. Don't worry if you don't speak the local language - most people there also speak English as well as Dutch or French.
