  Graspop Metal Meeting

Graspop Metal Meeting is an annual event held in Dessel, Belgium, ever since 1996. Founder Peter Van Geel realized that the initial idea of it being a festival family would not work for long, hence he switched the direction and got in touch with Bob Schoenmaekers, the owner of the Biebob concert venue and metal club in nearby Vosselaar who already had his "Midsummer Metal Meeting" in Vosselaar. It turned out to be an inspired choice, thus by 2011, the festival managed to attract over 140.000 visitors.

Graspop Metal Meeting 2012 will be held in Dessel festival park over the weekend of Friday 22 June to Sunday 24 June. With leading bands from just about every metal and rock subgenre and a lineup that spans several generations of heavy music, there’s loads of fun to be had for metalheads both young and not so young. Graspop Metal Meeting is synonymous for three days of music and fun, 70+ bands, four stages and lots of fringe events to boot, including signing sessions, an outdoor festival fair, an indoor metal market, etc. Moreover, the campsite is second to none with its Festival Express Shop, excellent sanitary facilities and much more. And if you’re going to have a few after the last band has left the stage but you’d still like to catch a few hours of comfortable sleep, then Metal Town is definitely the ticket! Metal Town is a veritable open air hotel with its proper sanitary facilities, breakfast tent, bar and reception desk. You can either spend the night in a festihut or you can book a pitch for your motorhome, caravan or tent.

Apart from the usual top acts and other household names, our lineup also includes a bunch of new names as no fewer than 34 bands are making their GMM debut this year. Graspop is so much more than just great music: cold beer(s), loads of side animation, signing sessions, the outdoor festival fair and the indoor metal market all contribute to the unique GMM atmosphere. And if you’re still on your feet after a full day of metal mayhem then our Metal Dome Afterparties will certainly drain the last of your energy with metal hits old and new, spectacular visuals, a sparkling light show and unique video footage! We have no doubt GMM2013 will be etched on the memory of thousands of metalheads, so let the final countdown begin!

The actual festival doesn’t start until Friday 28 June but the gates to metal paradise will swing open at 2 pm the day before, Thursday 27 June, for a metal bash that will rock the Metal Plaza until the wee hours of the morning.
Two talented new metal bands, the winners of the 2013 Red Bull Bedroom Jam, will kick off the festivities. You can help decide the winners by attending the final of the 2013 Bedroom Jam on Sunday 5 May at Trix, Antwerp. On that day, our 10 finalists will face off in a balls-to-the-wall effort to win one of the coveted slots at this year’s Graspop Metal Meeting. We’re counting on a massive turnout so come and scream your favourite band to your favourite metal festival on 5 May. Admission is free so there’s no excuse not to show up! (more info: http://www.redbullbedroomjam.be)

We’re also continuing our tradition of organising a Best of the Best metal bash on the eve of the main event. On Thursday 27 June, the top 50 metal bands of all time will whip the Metal Dome into a frenzy. As always, you can help decide which bands deserve to make into the top 50 by sending in your personal top 5 before 13 May 2013 Just click on the following link: http://www.graspop.be/top50. BLACK SABBATH REUNITES TO RECORD FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 33 YEARS AND LAUNCH MASSIVE WORLD TOUR IN 2012

OZZY OSBOURNE, TONY IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER AND BILL WARD UNVEILED THEIR PLANS ON 11/11/11 AT A LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE WHISKY A GO-GO, WHERE THE BAND PERFORMED THEIR FIRST LOS ANGELES DATE EXACTLY 41 YEARS AGO.

After much speculation, the original four members of BLACK SABBATH, OZZY OSBOURNE (vocals),TONY IOMMI (guitar), GEEZER BUTLER (bass) and BILL WARD (drums)--have reunited to record their first studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year) and to embark on an extensive world tour in 2012.

OSBOURNE, IOMMI, BUTLER and WARD as well as Rubin gathered last week on (11/11/11) to announce the news at a Los Angeles press conference at the legendary club, the Whisky A Go-Go, the site of the groundbreaking and influential band’s first L.A. concert exactly 41 years ago (Nov 11, 1970). The event was hosted by the revered musical and spoken word artist Henry Rollins who has said that “Any band worth their weight in napalm wishes they had written ‘War Pigs.’”

Selling over 70 million albums together, the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have signed a new record deal; worldwide with Vertigo and Vertigo/ Universal Republic in the U.S.,the band’s original label. BLACK SABBATH is now in the studio recording the as-yet-untitled new album for release in the fall of 2012 (exact date TBA). It will mark their ninth studio album together and their first since 1978’s Never Say Die!

Next summer, BLACK SABBATH will do a worldwide headlining tour and yes, it’s official! BLACK SABBATH have been confirmed as headliners for the 17th edition of Graspop Metal Meeting and will close the festival on Friday 22 June.

BLACK SABBATH also announced the launch of www.blacksabbath.com, the first-ever official BLACK SABBATH website for all authorized BLACK SABBATH news. Expect to see more coming from the band by way of Facebook and Twitter.

BLACK SABBATH released their self-titled debut album in 1970. “Black Sabbath is credited with creating heavy metal,” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “The success of their first two albums--Black Sabbath and Paranoid--marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term ‘heavy metal’ enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.”
In 1998, BLACK SABBATH released Reunion from their 1997 concerts in Birmingham, England, a two-CD live set. The band periodically got together to perform shows from 1999 - 2005; headlining Ozzfest in 1999, 2001, 2004, & 2005. They've now enthusiastically reformed to record and release a long awaited; long overdue full length album.

Graspop Metal Meeting is very proud to secure one of the true giants in metal history. What can we say about Black Sabbath that hasn’t been said a thousand times before? Widely regarded as the founding fathers of the genre, Black Sabbath and heavy metal are still going strong after more than forty years. Black Sabbath will appear in the original lineup that churned out metal milestone after milestone between 1969 and 1979: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) have not only announced their long-awaited reunion but a new studio album is also in the works. Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year) has been hired as the producer for the new release, which will feature the foursome’s first new material since 1978.

Black Sabbath played a blistering set at GMM1998 and now they’re back for more. Prepare to delve into forty years of metal history with the absolute masters of the genre!
